Shell won't stop gas flaring- poisoning people & the planet

30-second TV ad to run during the lead-up to the landmark Wiwa v. Shell trial in US federal court in which oil giant Shell will answer to charges that it conspired with the Nigerian military to brutally suppress a popular nonviolent movement of the Ogoni people opposed to its environmental degradation of their homeland in the Niger Delta. One of the charges Shell faces is colluding with the Nigerian military government to bring about the execution of nine Ogoni community leaders, including acclaimed author and environmentalist Ken Saro-Wiwa.

For nearly fifty years Shell has been flaring gas in Nigeria. These huge dirty, smoky plumes of pollution roar constantly across the Niger Delta. They affect the health of the local communities, they poison the air and light up the night sky. The flares have also been one of the biggest single contributors globally to climate change over the decades.

Your do realize that smokers put more benzene in the air than shell does. Benzene accounts for half of chemicals in cigarettes. Also, children in Nigeria have more to worry about than shell, Starvation, Aids, Genocide to name a few.

Why dont you advocate fixing the above 3 then worry about the small things.
