    il film è ambientato a fine '800, ma Marcello Mastroianni interpetra cmq la figura di un comunista, in quanto nel '21 si è costituito ufficialmente il PCd'I, ma l'ideale comunista nasce in maniera strutturata con Il Manifesto del Partito Comunista del 1848. E poi cmq considera che prima della rivoluzione russa molti partiti di stampo comunista in realtà portavano la nomenclatura "socialista" o "socialdemocratico"
