Yes they're soapbars. Actually they're Blues 90's, exclusively made for the BluesHawk. And single coils don't sound awful with distortion; it's all in the type of distortion you're using. Give a listen to Robin Trower or Eric Johnson for good examples of great single-coil distortion. A more obvious example is Hendrix.

Wow. That rocks HARD. Did you have the rotary switch in the circuit, or did you have it out (push the tone pot (?) in)?

Thanks! I had the tone pot out (Varitone circuit OFF). I haven't really found a whole lot of usable tones for my own playing with the Varitone so I hardly use it. I need to post a vid of my Nighthawk, that guitar just oozes tone.

Oh definitely!!! Get it up fast!!! I've never played either the Nighthawk or Blueshawk, but aesthetically they are fucking HOT guitars. If you think the Nighthawk sounds better than your Blueshawk - holy shit, I gotta hear it!
