While it's true to say the 1976 Expos had yet to come together as a team, the arrival of future superstars like Gary Carter, Ellis Valentine and earlier, Steve Rogers was already a good sign of beneficial winds of change coming our way.
Andre would soon become the 1977 rookie of the year and would give throughout the years the only thing he ever gave any club he ever played for: his best. 6 gold gloves in a row from 79 to 85 are 6 great examples of that. Forget all those pumped up, juiced up players we see nowadays: Hawk did it all clean and on one knee only. He was even seen crying one day in the dressing room at the Big O because his knee hurt too much and he couldn't play that night.
That's the kind of man he was, a man who won't accept defeat, a man you can stop from playing tonight because of atrocious pain but who will be diving head first on concrete or crashing into the fence to catch a ball the next day.
So here he is ladies and gents:
Le voltigeur de centre, centerfielder, le numéro 10, number 10, ANDRE DAWSON!
Please note that I don't own the copyrights of these pics and song.
Enjoy.
