Yeah but minnie ripperton can't sing like mariah. And I dont mean the whistle. I mean, in her real singing voice. Her voice is nowhere near mariah's height

that's just one lousy opinion. obviously more people prefer the range, power and clarity in mariah's voice. after all, she is the world's best selling female artist.

I love Aretha, but this cover is terrible. I mean it's "soulful"....but the song doesn't fit her voice.

@TheQueenAretha well i worded the comment wrong i was saying aretha had competetion in her day but still came out on top but when i mentioned her range i was talkin bout modern times she may not have the range she used to but she still more seasoned and perfectioned in her singing i kno bak n the day she was sumthin and still is 2 day when she wanna be

@rollsroycecooley1 What the hell are you talking about. Aretha in her prime has a very expansive range. Her lowest was a G2 and she even belted a D6. Aretha's chest voice is higher than MC.

Yeah I agree those powerhouses were really huge...And I also hailed Aretha for being on top among them...I mean...If Mariah in her prime has beautiful chest-voice,,,Aretha got soul and power...They are both powerhouses vocalists...And they are beginning to be rare...Since the music today is more on digital enhanced sounds

@Muzicx44 thats a good statment but what about all the power houses that debuted with Franklin maybe there was no Mariah Celine or Whitney but there was Ella, Dinah, Fontella, Patti, Gladys and so much more those singers back in my day could easily have beat some of those artist and maybe aretha aint got careys range heck she hardly got anyones range but she has more feeking and depth to her seasoned voice but i agree we shouldnt comapre the 2

Wow though genre are real stretches. Ballads aren't even a genre of music. And Hip-Hop, RnB and Pop aren't that difficult. Can Mariah take a song and make it hers and only hers no. Mariah's so called talent is nowhere near as great as the Queen. That is the bottom line.

I am huge fan of Aretha as well...But you cant compare Aretha's gift to Celine,Whitney and Mariah...They are on stardom its because of their talent...Not because of Aretha's presence

Well Mariah can sing RnB,Hip-hop,Pop,Ballad,Asian song and etc...Talent is talent...Mariah just stated her influences...But just notice the authenticity of her music...She never ever copy her idols...She has her talent greater than Aretha...I only compliment Aretha for maintaining her voice...

Mariah, Celine, and Whitney don't have a thing on Aretha. Without her they wouldn't be who they were. And without Aretha they would know what it means to really sing. Because Aretha influence both Whitney and Mariah.
