Do you remember what the German Shepherd used to be? Large to x-large, straight back, strong, athletic, stocky build, Safe with friends and family, super intelligent and long lived. I have been breeding to bring back what the shepherd used to be for more the 25 years. I do not breed show dogs, or hyper/aggressive German schutzhund lines. I have no goal at all to breed for these disciplines. Therefore I can focus on the best family pet with the best health. Unlike most old- style shepherd breeders I OFA certify not only hips but elbows as well. If you want a German shepherd that is a true family pet and protector with out needing extra training, or that need to be put away when friends and relatives visit.. Then a Royalair Shepherd may be what you are looking for. These bigger shepherds live longer and have better hips then the little guys! Its the lines- not the size- my dogs average 13 years of age and I am the only breeder in the US with two OFA excellent stud dogs over 120 lbs. Visitors are always welcome. If you used to love shepherds but had a bad experience the new lines. Or the dime a dozen German lines. Come back and experience again what a wonderful pet a German shepherd can be. • they were great family pets and companions because they were not highly bred for sport.they were calmer longer lived and generally bigger! wake up you breed the drive you want to at least I do not tell people my dogs are bred to do well in SCH. Like the high drive people who tell their buyers, their dogs are great famlily pets? So I get the here the horror stories when they have to give up the dogs or put them down because that family can not handle them...read from bottom to top

  • where does that leave the family that wants a pet and protector. that does not bounce of the walls that does not want a sharp hard to handle dog? It leaves the shepherd with a bad reputation as being a good famliy pet, no matter what you say the shepherd was calmer , was bigger I am a pretty old women now I do remember what they used to be 30 years ago! and they were not just a shutzhund dog or a show dog

  • 98% of all people who buy shepherds buy that dog for their family, You are as bad as the show breeders in thinking all people that want a german shepherd should do sport shutzhund or live with an intense drive because shepherds should be bred for your shutzhund or work..

  • To Royalair, Moedog, & WorkinglineGSD, please educate me on this! One of my dogs is a GSD and from a Schutzhund line, but i am ignorant as to all the specifications of this or what it means exactly (other than "working dog"). This is the first time i read about the line being hyper/aggressive. My girl is affectionate but she absolutely does have a serious amount of energy -- my dog trainer friend says she is a "tough girl". i find this all very interesting -- please enlighten me some more!!

  • Not all german line dogs are hyper most do have much higher energy levels then what I breed which is still pretty high I just don't like them to bounce of the walls, Like a hunting line dog they more working or hunting lines the higher the energy the better they are for the sport the higher the score. generally with the higher energy, most are" tougher" and need a harsher discipline too.. I like a "softer" dog my self I think they are more suited for families.

  • i have a german shepherd pup hes cute <3

  • best dogs

  • Big straight back is the best , I found my best friend in the local pound! He is the best dog I have ever had!!! he is black and tan and 110 lbs, very athletic and a big sweetie. a real charmer, old fashioned is the best GSD

  • Everybody should prefer straight back, strong and athletic GS! They're the best, and that's all their natural beauty!!!

  • I have 2 Royalair GS. Samantha is 11+ & is still active, still lovely, sound & sassy. Djibouti is 2. He's engaging, lively, smart, loving, sweet & funny.

TheMarymed2, it's astonishing you'd advise someone who's successfully bred these outstanding GS for several decades to 'get another breed'. Those who have these GS love 'em madly & are very, very happy that Robin didn't get another breed!

Get the GS that suits you. I did & I'm thrilled that I followed my heart & not the dictates of others.
