The Capitol 6000 Series was a label set up in Canada to release the work of British and Canadian artists. Some of the albums on the label are very hard to find. Capitol 6000 albums had different and much nicer album covers and a lot of the LP's released by British artists in the U.S. were very different from these Canadian releases. Usually a Capitol 6000 release resembled the actual British release way more than it did the American one. If you have any questions about the label, ask me, I'm a huge fan of Capitol 6000!

  • Great collection, I collect the 6000 series as well. Low budget line, actually, but cool. Especially the unique covers. I've open sealed originals before, and they don't even have inner sleeves, just the disc shoved into the sleeve. Love the Yardbirds cover w/both Page & Beck. Is the Sparrows LP good? I'm guessing it's just stardard beat music. Pre-John Kay. Love their later psych effort (single) on Columbia, Tomorrow's Ship/ Isn't It Strange.

  • Well the early 6000 series LP's came with a white inner sleeve that said Pathe on it in Red. I've never had a sealed Capitol 6000 album, i'd love one though. The Sparrows albums is very merseybeat influenced... they sound british even though they're from Toronto

  • A lot of these artists' U.S. releases were on labels other than Capitol. Dave Clark 5 - Epic, Gerry & the Pacemakers - Laurie, Animals - MGM, Manfred Mann - Ascot (later United Artists and Mercury), Hollies - Imperial (later Epic), Yardbirds - Epic, Billy J. Kramer & the Dakotas - Imperial, Freddie and the Dreamers - Tower and Mercury. I believe that Tower was a Capitol subsidiary, named for their tower-like building in Hollywood.

  • It's true. In fact, I have every album by every group you just named on those U.S. labels as well, maybe I should make a video of those too! Yes, Tower Records was a subsidiary of Capitol, but in the beginning, U.S. releases on Tower were released in Canada by Sparton Records in London, Ontario. It was only later that Tower releases were put out by the 6000 Series (ex: Simon Dupree & The Big Sound's LP, which i am missing, but i do have the U.S. Tower release!)

  • A copy of that Swinging Blue Jeans LP just went for $516 on e-bay

  • Great Collection.

  • :D nice collection> Dave Clarke five, the most common 6000 releases.

My fav are the Hollies, the Yardbirds and Downliners Sect of your bunch, I have not had the Sect LP's ..they are hella rare, you are right. Do you ebay for some of those, because that's pretty lucky to have just found them rummaging. My fav 6000 is Having a Rave up. :D

  • I have to say you are very lucky to find all those. I have about half of those albums which I found in the early 80's. I'm also very lucky to own a copy of The Staccatos two Canadian Capitol albums. I have almost all the Dave Clark Five except for three albums. I wish Capitol would release those on Cd. Anyways it's great you have them.

  • Thanks for showing these. I'm not sure I've ever seen any of them so it was great to find out that they even exist.
