As the war rages on in Congo, killing more people than the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan combined, the war in Congo continues to spiral out of control as a result of mineral conflict and international intervention.
As the bodies are cleared away the major mining companies of the world move in to exploit the land and the local population to keep the international markets regulated.
Congo holds 85% of the worlds reserves in almost all the minerals that contribute to the international markets consumption. Here we look at the effects it has on the populations surrounding precious mineral reserves, such as gold.
