Here are two of my favourite story books from early childhood that I've kept for all these years. In 1970, my Mom recorded me at 4 yrs old reading these stories (from memory.) Of course, I just had to put it all together - some 40 years later.
The Tiny Tawny Kitten: A little kitten, afraid of everything, finds courage and friendship in an unlikely place. I loved this story. I could relate to many of the situations she found herself in...I didn't like big boys on bikes or big yapping dogs. I even had a neighbour like Miranda with sharp claws and a nasty nature. The kitten's biggest threat was Ebenezer, (or 'Bezernezer' - my more sinister pronunciation.) Facing him bravely with a tiny paw and the heart-warming conclusion on the final page made this a timeless favourite my own children also enjoyed.
Little Mommy: Wasn't it every girl's dream to "sweep the floor and wipe the fingerprints off the door?" Well, mine was in those early days. This was absolutely my favourite story. The beautifully coloured pages and detailed pictures make this book a very interesting read for an old fashioned girl. Imagine baking, cleaning, looking after your babies and still finding time for a party with your neighbour under a cherry tree. I wanted to be that little girl. I wanted to make blueberry stew.
