Parks' Fly Shop fly tying video: Olive X-Caddis. This is our version of the well-known X-Caddis, tied with a fuzzier body than standard and on a short shank hook, both to more closely match emerging caddisflies. RECIPE:
Hook: short shank dry, #14-16. Thread: 6/0 olive-dun Uni. Tail: caddis tan Z-lon or equivalent. Body: olive rabbit/synthetic blend, picked out. Wing: early season cow elk or natural deer. More information at www.parksflyshop.com

  • Cool, It's just like a regular BRF x caddis

  • I don't know how BRF is doing them in-house these days, but the commercial versions our wholesalers sell are all tied on standard-length (rather than short) hooks and have much more-tightly dubbed bodies than this one. The X2 caddis and Iris Caddis (more recent flies) are much fuzzier. Our version of the X caddis certainly isn't a new pattern, but it is a variation on what we could buy from the offshore manufacturers.
