Fred Friendly is not a name that you would likely recognize. Yet if you watch news on the inter-tubes or the talking picture box, his work has touched your life.

Friendly pioneered broadcast journalism, creating the first television documentary and producing groundbreaking news reports with Edward R. Murrow at CBS (their most famous report was depicted in "Good Night and Good Luck" with George Clooney playing Fred).

Friendly went on to help create public television and mold young minds at the Columbia School of Journalism.

Fred's wife, Ruth, was an integral part of his work, teaming up with him to create a series of public interest debates for PBS called the "The Fred Friendly Seminars." Since Fred's passing in 1998, Ruth works to carry on this legacy.
