I can't agree, listening to classical music isn't a privilage I like it too but I also like rock and pop no need to dump them. There are some masterpiece anywhere in the world. You don't need to group them.. blues, jazz, rock , pop, classical music.. or even hip-hop. Let us be open-minded to any kind of music. Prejudices never made one any good (:

I totally agree with you. It's amusing how the mind of a single composer that lived roughly 200 years ago surpasses the minds of thousands of so called "singers" that live today. I see reverse Darwinism at work here, humanity is getting dumber and more tasteless with each generation.

I agree with you, although that being prejudice lets you be a part of society. It's a psycho-biological thing. You can't deny it.

Exactly how I feel. It's like we're descending the ladder of human evolution.

There are some really good techno pieces out there that are just as brilliant as this. Granted, there's a lot of crap techno, but the good ones are out there.

It's not humanity getting dumber, quite the opposite.

Since we are progressing so much, we don't need to bother with such technical ability since our instruments are so advanced and it's relatively easy to make music and for it to be heard now. Musicians/composers would have been dedicating their entire lives to there craft.

Also artists now live in less struggle and unjust compared to back then - that is the biggest factor in my opinion.

I couldn't agree more with you. I mainly listen to metal. I can't stand hip-hop but I still have the odd Beyonce song I'll quietly sing along to. People need to get past "one genre greatness". I love classical and metal. Doesn't mean to say everything else is rubbish.

With regards to the "wondrous" music, it is not upbeat elevator music. It is a highly personal battle between Beethoven and fate, a representation of the existence of humanity and how it addresses the problem of its existence. The fifth symphony perhaps more than any other is a brilliant and accessible discussion of mankind. There is a reason, you know, why the Allies flew a plane with the first four notes written in Morse code over the beaches on D-Day. This work summarizes humanity.
