I agree, Magrebi and Zaffa are completely different. I've also heard Magrebi with the very last tek left off and with a rest/pause there instead: Tektek dum tektek tekdum es
I've also seen a Magrebi played:
tek es tekdum tek es tekdum
Its really a 3/8 that gets repeated so you have a 6/8. The first tek in the 3/8 phrase is a dotted eighth note.

Indeed Vals is Waltz, Laaf is another name for Malfuf which translates something like "rolled" like cabbage leaves all rolling inwards.
