Faith/Activism kicked in up a notch (one-two, one-two) with the start of a series of "dumpster dives" that seek to engage college students on their levels of food consumption, the excess of landfill waste, and awareness of disadvantaged communities lack of access to healthy foods.

Through Dumpster Diving we hope to encourage further commitment to food distribution to working poor families in South LA. In partnernship with the Center of the Working Poor (www.centeroftheworkingpoor.org), we want college students to participate in the collection and distribution of fresh produce from LA's Produce Warehouse in Downtown to family members who have been recently fired from their place of employment because of their attempt to organize.

The Center specifically meets the needs of families whose parent has been fired from a service-sector job in the LAX Hotel Corridor.

  • There's a fruit & veg shop in Eastwood, Nottingham. I go either every night after they close, or first thing in morning (between 5am and 530am) to see what goodies they have. Yesterday I got 5 cauliflowers, a huge bag of red potatoes the size of salad potatoes, and five bunches of flowers. This morning, I got a big firm green cabbage and two bunches of flowers. Going again tonight or in morning.
