@wilkiezoo Oops! Great call on the lack of info. I used to measure the hole of the bluebird houses I had purchased and used that size auger. On this one, I researched the proper size. 1 1/2 inch used to be the standard. 1 9/16 inch to increase occupancy but have a chance of starlings getting in. 1 5/8 inch works but more starlings will get in.

Great question: Although you can attach directly to the tree, I prefer to attach a scrap of
treated one inch board or
left over piece of cypress
that is slightly smaller than the back of the house to the tree. I use two inch long deck screws, but you can use reg. wook screws. Then I attach the house to that scrap with a couple 1 1/2 in. deck screws.
You can skip the scrap and just use two 2 in. screws right into the tree, if you want. I have a couple house like this and no rot after 4 years
