The economic appeal is neglecting certain other important ideas, such as religion.
I'm not convinced that a Caliphate is beneficial to the world.
Who will lead? Power corrupts no matter what religion or ideology. Remember, it is still only an idea guided by people who are corruptable even if the idea doesn't seem to be.
The Ottoman Empire had its strengths and weaknesses and became a Caliphate. But economics were not resolved.
The Caliphate sounds effective, but is it really?

It's true, we have seen true islamic law take place before in history both with the arab and ottoman empires and both were very successful and rich in economy, it is recorded that in the period of Fatih Sultan Mehmed II (MEHMED II the conqueror) there was a bag full of gold (someone's zakat) and it hung on a tree branch for a month and whoever needed money would just get what they needed and not the whole bag. this is an example of islamic law and rules in practise.
