Every time I log into YouTube I am drawn to Stan Rogers. Why? As his wife said, he just gets under your skin. Something in his voice and his stories resonates so deeply I end up weeping in joy. Thank you Stan. Rest in peace. Your legacy lives on.

You can also throw in my English support for Stan as well. I only got into Stan about six months ago; I'd heard the song 'Forty-Five Years' sung by someone else, so decided to search for it on You Tube and Stan popped up. I was just blown away by him, I didn't realise he'd written it and I became an instant fan. Like his wife, Ariel, said, his music gets under your skin. I can relate, in a way, to the songs about fishing, as Britain is/was a maritime nation.

My heart home is Cape Breton, but I grew up in Ontario, just like Stan. His music rings truer because of that longing for home. One of my most cherished memories is of a long winter drive from Ontario to Nova Scotia listening to Stan's music the entire way. That music is now a permanent part of me.

I saw Stan when I was twelve or thirteen I think, in either Winkler or Morden Manitoba, I believe this must have been shortly after Northwest Passage came out as he head some records for sale. I was kind of grumpy because my paretns were taking me to some crappy folk show. I loved it!! And I ended up listening to stan often on the cassette deck in my car with my gf through the early and mid eighties. His music is awesome.
