Laird may well be called the universal surfboard, and is going to hurt some people's feelings. Laird's straightforward honesty and pure utility is the direct opposite to the aims of the manufacturing hucksters who have tried to make people think that they cannot surf without convoluted shapes designed to cheat some rule which never existed.

Hydrodynamic purity

When designing a surfboard capable of speeds in excess of 40mph , hydrodynamic integrity is crucial. An average longboard muscles its way through the water, covered in hardware. A much more elegant approach was taken with Laird. Hydrodynamics informed every aspect of the design.

  • Do you think it would be possible to build a similar design without using wood decking? I'm under the impression it could work, spacing the inner skeleton/"rails" about 2in or less apart. The main concern of mine is delamination, but I have a strong gut feeling it would work. Any insight?

  • @andhemills What would you use instead of wooden decking ?

  • Hi Gabriel, and thanks for your happy comment ! How's the music going ?

  • @RoyStewart Essentially, fiberglass. I want to create a very similar wood frame without decking, then glass it. The idea is that with enough of the inner supports, a deck wouldn't be necessary. Though, that would cause concern for delamination. If a harder, solid surface is required for decking, I've considered using plexiglass. I'm designing a 7'8"x22" eggy funboard. I plan to have 84 crossbeams of 1/4" width. I'm considering to build a small prototype to test *(which I'm thinking more about )

  • I keep wonderung how great your work is..

    greetings from sunny germany, gabriel
