Original composition on an X77 I modified in the 70's to sound the way I wanted a Hammond to sound. Bought the instrument new so it may be the 2nd last one-owner X77 left playing.

  • According to 'Hammond Organ Models' on scribd the X66 cost nearly $8,000 while the X77 was half that and made about 3 years after the x66 ( not in 77'). I wonder why the huge price difference?

  • @paulj0557 In 1969 my X77 AU$7500, X66 over AU$13000! Apart from what the market would bear, the X66 made all other Hammonds look pretty average as to electronic design & layout. 3 mech. vibrato scanners with sep. bass vibrato and seperate vib. for orchestral and percussion., Custom integration of circuits, key combs teflon impregnated, cast iron base, 4 channels of hifi even by today's std. X77 last and potentially best full tone gen. model but basic in comparison. Cheers

  • Hello Allan. Great playing for sure. I purchased an x77 with leslie. Can you tell me what mods you made to make your sound so great? John

  • @090jsmall Std. X77P cabinet. Mods to Leslie and direct output preamps. Sheet steel added under preamps. Tone generator std. Effects units on Leslie and direct. Extra percussion switching, fluro disconnected, reverb re-routed. No midi. As an early model it had to have factory recd. mods to lower noise...still noisy. All levels set by ear. Main aims...more bite and getting rid of excessive tremelo effect of Leslie, especially on P cab, came with L. Oil tgen & all motors! Cheers

  • Last time I recorded my X66 was in 1980. It later developed problems beyond my electronic skills ,and with no service available in an Aussie country town...nor Google!...at the time it was parked. It's been repaired of late but is still parked now waiting for a decent acoustic space to put it in. In 1980 it was playing through a pair of Urie 813 studio monitors and sounded glorious in a large room. Best I can presently offer is a couple of 1980 audio tracks and new videos later. Cheers

  • Glad you enjoyed it. Bought my X66 sh in 1971. Built to last 3 lifetimes.Personally prefer my modified X77 but X66 is std. It lacks the harmonic bite of my X77 or a good B3, but has a unique musical quality. It depends on what type of music you're playing. Very quiet, 4 channels out and no need for leslies. Whether it's a real B3, my X77 or an X66, they all have a UNIQUE sound, which is more than can be said for most modern organs or synthesisers. These Hammonds didn't copy anything. Cheers
