Researchers from the University of Bristol have created artificial muscles that can be transformed at the flick of a switch to mimic the remarkable camouflaging abilities of nature's organisms.
Two individual mechanisms are demonstrated in this video based on the colour-changing effects seen in squid and zebrafish.
The published version of the paper "Biomimetic chromatophores for camouflage and soft active surfaces" (Bioinspir. Biomim. 7 036009) will be freely available online from 2 May. It will be available at http://iopscience.iop.org/1748-3190/7...

Crazy clip. Great clip. My close friend used to be obese. He went from 279lbs of pure fat into 200 lbs of massive muscle mass. I couldn't believe it! I just registered myself as I wanna beef up. He used the Muscle Building Bible (Look in Google)...

Sorry, that doesn't account for parallax.

Now just make an RGB cell and modulate the color element apertures and you've got a workable display. Combine that with a cheap imaging array and you've got a possible active camouflage system.

Very impressive! I'm trying to imagine what these will do with a little more research.
