THE TRUTH ABOUT ONLINE ANOREXIA U.S. PREMIERE
British TV and radio personality, Fearne Cotton, examines the ongoing trend for super-slim women and immerses herself in the worrying world of 'pro-ana' websites that encourage anorexia and starvation as a life choice. As Fearne explores the diet and exercise regime of a pro-ana, she tests some of the extreme regimes they endorse and meets other girls whove embraced the same lifestyle. She explores the seductive nature of these support groups, examines the world of competitive dieting and looks at relationships ordinary women have with each other when it comes to diet and body image.

  • I had no idea what a calorie even was at age 10.

  • Sorry,

    SW is suicide watch.

I just can't get over how alienated these programmes must be making the viewers feel who have a disorder!

I mean, fuck, if I watched it on TV I'd prolly relapse.

PT helps! PrettyThin is my support!

Don't judge a book by it's cover you hypocritical bastards!

  • @jesuisfaer jesus christ, yes. i'm glad someone sees the reality of the situation. those sites are clearly primarily for people who want to emulate these disorders, who need "tips" to do whatever is deemed ED behaviour. i mean really now, 'boys'll pick you up more easily'? that's some pathetic heteronormative bullshit... and all the focus is on tween diets and "beauty", whatever that is. with an ED comes the realization that there is no "beautiful", the disorder is a coping mechanism.

  • She's 11 pounds away from a medical diagnosis of anorexia....haha, that's ironic.

  • anorexia does not start with these websides! pro ana sides are wrong but its not the thing that makes you feel fat! these thoughts are in your head way befor you even think about going for internetsearch!

  • oh my goodness.i used to be anorexic, and even though i relapse at times, this really gets me upset. i couldn't wish anorexia on anybody else and just seeing those girls, knowing they'll probably end up dieting or even fasting, it makes me sick. i hate this.

  • @MissEllenMarie1 me? im 15............ i think

  • a calorie is an energy unit.............

  • When I was 10 I had a Tamagotchi...

  • lool er i look nasty in this video loool yes i am one of the school kids 'kira' loool. the light one with brown her in betweeen that boy and fearne looooool

  • this woman has clearly not understood the internet. there are many more terrifying sites.

  • There is a difference between people who go on 'pro ana' sites to lose weight and people who actually suffer from anorexia. BUT pro ana can lead to actual anorexia, I would know.

'Pro ana' sites are not 'disgusting'. It's simply a site that people go to because they feel they are fat or need to lose weight even though its so extreme.

In my opinion, people who go on such diets may be at the start of an eating disorder, or in the middle of one.

I'm not judging, because I have an eating disorder.
