Can anyone help me out? I play trumpet, but just can't figure out the first couple of notes. :(

When people ask me what I plan on learning on my shiny new cornet, I send them to this song. I'll never get there, but this is an amazing song anyway! Listening to this song and others like it is why I wanted to play the trumpet. Phenomonal! =)

i love the spoon dropping noise at the end hehe! :)

This Cornet MASTERPIECE should SURELY have been sealed in the container & launched into space back in 1977 as by NOW we'd have had aliens on the line saying "Send more early Armstrong PLEASE!" [to paraphrase Steve Martin line re. Chuck Berry] Gordon Whitworth used to knock out a GOOD Tpt. 'immy' of Pops' original. BEWARE! though! Only the very BOLDEST of BRASSMEN SHOULD attempt to emulate GOD/Pops, for the inevitable critical comparison can severely damage a fragile ego!

I think he sounds like an ET when he sings. ET is cute as heck. The music is like a magic carpet ride of beautiful virtuousity.

Is that a clarinet? o.o I love the tone! :3 The trumpet sounds amazing. :D

...and the amazing part... except the basic blues progression skeleton... its 100% improvised. Musical genius literally in the making.
One of the true masterpieces in the music of the 20th century. A stunning Armstrong at his best, accompanied by the best sidemen.

trumpetdude you are right on that!! I wish more people appreciated the huge impact he had on jazz...too many people know him only as the smiling performer of "Mame", and other pap from the 1960's, but any trumpet player, like me or you, who hears his early work recognizes genius! And much thanks to the great Wynton Marsalis for championing Armstrong!
