Wanted to record how bad it sounded on startup, but it actually started up better than it had been (prior to plug/wire change). There are obviously some other issues going on, so I just recorded multiple areas & whatnot. The clips go in order, so the further along in the video you get, the longer the car has been running. It ran for about 15min before I shut it off.

Update: Something caused the head gasket to blow the day after this video. Assume it was a coolant blockage of some sort; radiator fan wouldn't turn on because coolant wasn't circulating, so the engine would start overheating. The oil was fine the day of this video, and there wasn't any white smoke.

  • Yea I know you said that in your text. I wonder what caused it to blow. They usually are pretty stout unlike the damn intake gasket.

  • @MAM92lx I'm going to guess we'll find out more specifically what/where when it gets opened up. That should be on the 10th. I'm sure they'll document with pics. If being overfull on oil could do it, that's a possibility; it drove all the way home from CT like that because someone overestimated the amount to put in. Otherwise it could have been a coolant blockage. Plus the head gasket has been regularly wet along it for a while now.

  • Sounds okay. Blowing white smoke?

  • @MAM92lx It turned into a blown head gasket. The following day I started it up, white smoke, no heat, engine overheating, cold hoses/radiator, milky oil. The whole 9 yards.

  • Make sure you have the head checked for warp if the car ran overheated for a while. I doubt an overfilled crank case would cause that-would blow out a seal or two first. Check the thermostat too. Easy way is to throw it in pan with water -heat the pan and see if the stat opens up
