Netgear WGR614 Repair - Bad Capacitors

Mine just started making the high pitched noise about a month ago, I just ordered some 1000uf, 470uf and 220uf caps for a monitor power supply by coincidence ... lets see if i can up my order from digikey before it gets here..., Why are 470 and 220 so common with 12v filtering? and can i generally always upgrade the 470's to 1000uf's?

@epicenterprises1 The 220uF probably needs to be kept the same as it looks like it was part of the switchmode 12v -> 3.3v regulator on the board. The 470uF was just for power smoothing so the capacitance was not too critical. For power smoothing more capacitance won't hurt although you should check to make sure that you can still put it back together if you use a bigger capacitor.

Well i replaced both caps, and added a slim 40mm fan over the broadcom cpu on some ruber spacers and soldered it to the 12v input. No more high pitched noise, just the whir of the slim fan :) The cap i used for the 470uF was 2x to big, but i just installed it horizontal to the board with long leads (normally lead distance can screw up capacitors, but because this is just for filtering i figured i could get away with long leads. The Wire holes on this board were tiny :( took forever.
