I've split the sound of the guitar and have one signal sent to the Sonuus G2M and the other set totally dry, so you can hear the pitch tracking and latency very accurately between the real sound of the guitar and the MIDI generated signal using the Sonuus G2M. You could use any number of things to split your signal, the simplest thing would be a little splitter cable from Radio Shack or something, you don't need a pedal to do it.

The latency is subtly worse on the lowest fourth of the guitar compared to the mid-range. If you wanted to play rockin bass lines I'd suggest having your MIDI source itself do the transposition so you get the best results.

The footswitch I stomp on to effectively turn the MIDI signal on and off is a true bypass loop box that the mixer is run through.

  • i cant decide whether to get the g2m or b2m, how well can the g2m handle a bass?

  • @Harpo6 It starts to really lose tracking in the low octave. I've never tried the b2m, so I don't know if that would be better for you. If you're playing on anything that goes lower than the low E of guitar regularly, don't get the g2m, to be sure.

  • does it work with a jazz electric zeta violin?or any electric violin ?

  • @ARMONIK4U

I don't see why not. It worked fairly well with my bassoon! Just play with the EQ settings to get a sound the G2M likes.

  • have you ever used it to run into your pc as well? I'm interested in this for tabbing purposes while running it into a delta 44, then again now that I think about it... I guess the midi would be lost if ran it into a breakout box...I guess it comes with usb compatibility in this case?

  • @redoubt9000

You'd need a MIDI>USB cable. But otherwise, yeah it'll work with a PC.

  • Hmm, a hex pickup, RMC Fanout Box, and six Sonuus will turn a Fender into Yamaha G-50..

  • Need a better PC to support a lower latency midi setting.

  • MATT DAMON.

  • There's a crap load of nonsense with midi guitars... either somewhat poorly conceived apparatus or good designs not properly marketed etc. etc.

It's really straight forward... if you have a real guitar, then a Ghost pickup to Axon was best, end of story... but Fender brought out the RH only game controlling axe (I'm lefty) so I can't comment, and there's a 'Rock Guitar' I think with press down string/fret thing.

    It's all screwed... it's ......................................ing 2011!

  • @dudemusicspace and about those 'gaming' MIDI guitars... well.... after reading feedbacks on KVR, i guess i'll stay out of those game-controller guitars..

  • @dudemusicspace axon is discontinued now AFAIK... but you should check out the new prototype from Andras Szalay, it's way better than Axon i think !

the video is on his youtube channel ;)

also i think G2M V2 is much more improved over the V1 shown in this video.

  • @ReaktorFreak Or you could get a Ghost pickup and an Axon (if you can still find one)... though without the Ghost system the Axon was not 'that great'. Fender make the new gaming guitar which should be pretty good as it tracks pitch with the frets... but I'm a lefty, and I asked if they would be making a lefty version, and they said no way, which sucks!

  • The latency you mention doesn't sound correct to me, listening to the playing... even on the low notes. The Axon (now defunct) would have a latency of up to around 14ms on the low notes, but 30ms on the G2M I think that would be more obvious (as it's not good) and it could just be me but I'm not hearing that much delay. 30ms would be considered problematic, and I'm just not hearing that much latency, but perhaps if I play it then I would get annoyed LOL.

  • @tjowatonna cheers for the advice man

  • Well, that certainly blows away the tracking on the ARP Avatar I spent a small fortune on in the 70's.
