Part Three of our journey back to New Orleans in Jan. 2007. Enough is a movement in New Orleans to stop the violence and hold leaders all accountable in these trying times. Enough young black men and ladies have died at the hands of other young black men and ladies. Enough young black men and ladies are crowding our jails. Enough young black men and ladies have had their lives destroyed by drugs. Enough young black mothers and fathers have had to bury their children. Enough opportunities have been missed b the black community during this time of rebuilding and renewal in our city. «

City's that are surrounded by much larger metropolitan belts are likely to have artificially high murder rates - NOLA, DC, St. Louis etc. are prime examples and it's a school of thought I'm leaning towards.

Ever wondered why Rio de Janeiro for example looks so much more violent than these small US cities but has a 'similar' murder rate? There's your answer - along with an absurdly corrupt police force.

Actually it's 94 per 100k as of 2007 for the core I didn't know the FBI have the city's pop. as low as 220,000. They've gotta sort out their '06 figures though they still have NOLA's pop. at 431k and a murder rate of 37 per 100k for that year.

The murder rate for NOLA metro is 28 per 100,000 as of 2007 and this is more reliable.
