  • @reapfreak Oh no the server does not work for the restaurant. Servers work for $2.13 an how in Alabama and I was forced to quit through major harassment by a supervisor because I was awesome at my job. I was one of two employees working graveyard shifts at an atrociously managed franchise. I had to cook, prep, clean, do dishes, seat and serve for $2.13. Don't go out to eat if you cannot tip your server based on his or her performance. Take into account as well that you her not the only customer.

  • Ooooooh my god! SCREWED by restaurants! Absurd! Called out the franchise owner- the sole proprietor- about prompting servers to claim all of our direct tips and then on our clock out sheet it added out DIRECT tips to our credit tips. This caused me and everyone else to claim our credit tips twice. The general manager, the district manager, and the franchise owner claimed that direct tips was what we made in cash tips. NO way am I paying taxes on that extra money at the end of this fiscal year.

  • While I'm generally against a federally mandated minimum wage, as long as there is one it should apply to servers.

I think it's criminal that restaurants can pay $3 hourly because they collect tips when people like the previous commenter will eat out & feel no moral or ethical obligation to tip because "servers work for the restaurant"

  • The way I see it, tipping is not necessary. The server works for the restaurant, not me. I am paying the restaurant for their items and services, the server is only accountable to the restaurant owner.
