Father Carr uses concepts in faith, science and philosophy to explain why the doctrine of the Holy Trinity is so important to who we are as Catholics.

Fr Carr is a signer of the Clergy Letter Project http://www.butler.edu/clergyproject/religion_science_collaboration.htm

  • Atheist position...I can perceive all reality. You are incorrect Mr. Carr.

  • Well, then, Señor, how would you define the Atheist position in 500 characters or less?

  • I was just stating that your comment that the Atheist position stems from "they think they perceive all reality" is silly and you know it is, hopefully. There is no definitive position but mine requires evidence.

  • OK My actual position is in order to be an atheist you have to be able to say God does not exist. To say God does not exist you have to say that you can perceive all reality and have not perceived God. If you cannot say that then you cannot say definitively that God does not exist. You can, like Isaac Asimov, make the assumption and stick with it. But to affirm that God does not exist definitively one must affirm that one can perceive all that exists in stating there is no God.

  • According to your "definition" there are not atheists. In reality though the position is God probably doesn't exist for most.

Think of of this way. I don't hold a position. You present the claim the there is a God. In particular the God of the bible. I ask for evidence of this claim...after all, extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence. You say this claim has no evidence and it requires faith. I dismiss claim. That is generally the position or at least mine.

    Hope that helps.

  • I am quite familiar with that position. However, the key issue is: Are there realities in the universe beyond our ability to perceive? (Obviously, I believe yes) An answer to that question does not define faith, it defines who we are as humans. the nature of those realities or lack thereof defines how we live as humans. So the issue goes beyond whether or not God exists and affects every aspect of human life. If God is dead we are gods. Are We?

  • In a mystery of time & space, one possible strategy of God is that the World mysteriously appears out of the Big Bang, Then Life appears, we appear & then in time, all the mystery of the world is unraveled to us, we literally become Sons of God, who can inherit the Dominion of God, & sit on God's Throne. Then at that later time, we create another world, at least we think it is another universe we created, but we end up finding out it is all a Conundrum, in a Closed Loop, it is this same world

  • One way Jesus might be raised from the dead. Jesus acted out the Priestly Messiah to give a Gift to the world of Faith, that as Jesus said "with God all things are possible" The passion of the Life, Death and Resurrection of Jesus is a stubbornly clinging story to all humanity. In some far future, when all mysteries are opened to man's dominion, then at the end of times, if Jesus is Loved, they come back through time to raise up Jesus from the dead, making the dream come true. Mystery

  • Now Bertrand Russel said " I can think of a Tea Pot in orbit around the other side of the Sun" But that thought does not make it so , Russel implied. but in Time, in honor of that verbal gesture, a man might someday place a teapot in orbit around the Sun, to show that whenever an idea is expressed, it has already entered the domain of the Possible, and if the man is wise, he should know someone , some day will do it, simply because the challenge was made, even if made in disbelief.

  • Any human being who has had a vivid dream , might come to understand the Divine Nature of the Mind over any boundaries of the Material World. In the dream the human being experiences all at once, being the spectator of the dream, as well as the authorship of the dream and also the dreamer is using the same one mind to act out many persons of character seen in the dream. Then Behold, the dreamer gets to see the self also appearing in the dream , while watching the self act, which is Divine

  • As God is Infinite, He is yet Sovereign over the circumstances that total up to what is Infinite. So God can appear in any moment of time and space , capturing the essence of the Finite Object, which is merely a part of the Infinite Collective Oneness of All. If God could not move to appear in any moment, then He would not be God of all the moments and all the space that is contained in the sense of that which is Infinite. Sovereignty of God means having All and having any One at Will.

  • The Torah Bible, Genesis One, opens already , in the Second Person Tense of a Speaker telling the audience that God the First Person of Interest has created the heavens and the earth .Then the same speaker says God is seen moving as the Spirit over the Waters. Then God in the third verse of the Bible Genesis One, takes to speak a quotation , speaking in the First Person Tense , "And God said " Let there be light" So the Bible shows God was complex as Father and Son and Holy Ghost, Trinity.

  • The Ancient Story Teller was One Speaker, who had the Divine Nature of God, to act out with various voices and wear costumes and masks to tell a complex story in a Three Person Tenses of Speech. Speaking as Himself, He speaks in the First Person, Speaking about Himself, thus moving in behavior to acting out as a Narrator for Himself, He speaks in the Second Person Tense about Himself, Then to speak as all the Characters that appear also in His Story, He speaks in the Third Person Tense.

  • When a man is a Judge, at work , on the bench, he wears a black robe and behaves according to the Vestment ,the outer covering of the human being, then dictates how the person behaves while wearing the robe. But unlike a Leopard who cannot change it's own spots, the Judge is able to disrobe and change his outer appearance and end the behavior dictated by the Terms of His Black Robe. So at home the same human being appears as a different Person, God is One Being able to appear as Three Persons

  • The Trinity was coined by Tertullian to express a Legal Power of a Divine Being, to appear in various ways according to the behavior desired by the Being to act out. God was not a Father until God had a Son, because the Title of Father implies the deed is acted out. So Father and Son is not proper names of two beings, but a Single Actor , who is also the only Author of the Action , can alter His appearance , wear a costume or mask, and act out many persons of character as desired.
