It also must be recognized that nicotine is by no means the only biactive substance in the tobacco leaf. Rcently alkaloids of the harmala group, harman and norharmon, have been isolated from cured commercial tobaccos and their smoke.They constitute a chemical group of beta-carbolines,which include harmine, harmaline, tetrahydroharmine, and 6-mythoxy harmine, all with hallucinogenic properties.

MAO inhibitors are only available by prescription. How Do MAO Inhibitors Work?
