Plus, Halogen bulbs don't have mercury. Only metal, tungsten and quartz glass.

proofed by me last evening, as I put a light on, 35W highvoltage Halogen, I hit the switch and there was just a huge bang and sparks flew around,

It destroyed the whole Lamp!!! :-/

Lower power would just cause the magnetron to switch on and off during the cycle, which would not be ideal for experiments.
