Although some of the ceremonial dances, associated with the Ants has diminished, the Death Dance remains firmly a topoi in Seni Video performances by L.C. von Sukmeister. In his Wonder World of Video Art at Surakarta the Death Dance is a re-enacted tale from the great Hindu epic poems, the Ramayana and the Mahabharata. This kind of Ant-ertainment was once widespread in Art Today (Lying/Liam Gillick) or Global Art (Hans Belting) and is still frequent in Indonesia in the form of Death Dances, Ant shows, and video performances. The prop animal, which is in this case the cockroach, appears and reappears, sometimes necessary to the plot, sometimes simply as part of the costuming.
