I just got this pump (ario 2) and find it painfully loud in my 70 litre tanks. Ive covered it in gravel to the recommended height, and my tank sits on a 3/4 inch PS foam base.
Have I got a faulty unit you think, or is this loud hum/ vibration and occassional bubbly gurgle normal?

You certainly did this pump justice!!
Good Job!!
Thanks for the info

Does the control nob have anything in it? In the manual I saw something but do you put another filter inside or is it empty?

put a check valve on your air tubing

i now have had 3 of these the first one didnt work at all, the second one worked for 5 minutes the third lasted a day, i can only go with a submersible air pump because its a coffee table, and hydor is the only company i know of that makes these and they all suck and is a defective product, i think im screwed
I have not found it very loud. I do find a (hum) as expected with fan blades in water. I would say try cutting the air an see if a difference. Or ask others their opinion.

The control knob is a small plastic "twist" to adjust air flow housing. It has a sponge type filter in it to block dust particles from ehtering the air flow, into the water.
You can also add "poly fill" to the chamber in between the led and the fan outlet in the housing which is submerged as well.
Im shocked over 8,000 people researched this item! wow...

I had one that would stop on occassion, and I would wack it a little with a screwdriver handle and it would start up (the fan part) but the lights always worked.
After a while sometime the filter material (i would use reg bulk filter cotton) would jamb the fan part. otherwise after two years mine still work...

It does show you how to lower the air flow. Maybe you should have learned to read directions...
As for my 150 gallon , now 180 gallon tanks, there is not an issue.

Be careful of this product! I had it and water leaked out of the air intake tube that hangs on the outside of the tank and it drained several gallons overnight and damaged my floor.

That is why is SPECIFICALLY STATES to have the air INTAKE ABOVE the tank.
So you dont create a syphon and do that!
