There is nothing wrong with his singing in this. It was amazing!! Who sings it better today? Anyone? Anyone? Pavarotti and Kraus sang it just like this too - full out. Bellini is meant to be strongly sung (not forced, but strong), not wimpy. Lawrence nailed it and sang it with Bellini style. If anything, I would like it if his top had more bloom. It almost sounds as though it is slightly pulling off the voice. High B's and C's will/should be a tenors loudest notes if blooming properly.
With respect to this aria, I've definitely heard better from Brownlee, and would be inclined to agree that the dynamic range is lacking in this one.
It's especially odd because I just listened to a recording from the same night of "Una Furtiva Lagrima", where Brownlee's dynamic range, musicality and phrasing were the highlights of the piece.
Still, I don't know anybody that can sing Bellini like Brownlee. Hope his leg heals up soon - I'm going to see "La Fille du Regiment" in December!
Please Lawrence with such beautiful material try to sing not constantly loud, it makes
you needles tiered and not all the vocals are on its place, it is really not good and your sound nice enough to let the people enjoy and give musicality more chance!
@notsobluebear My guess that the microphone and where it is placed is partly, if not largely to blame for the apparent lack of dynamics.

@aarontenor I think Brownlee probably refrains from giving too much to his Bs and Cs in order to be able to give more to his Ds, Es and Fs.

@familypondman I read your comment before the song had begun and I thought he was going to prove you wrong, but he didn't and it's unfortunate.
