Total time from pressing enter to get ready desktop is 9 sec. However, according to the bootchart CPU & Disk I/O stands just for 4 sec..

  • taith2: I wouldn't recommend you to even try to install gentoo if you're not VERY familiar with linux environment. You need to know what you want, without some experience its rather not possible. What about trying Ubuntu first?

  • You're absolutely right. At the beginning Gentoo needs a lot of time to configure, but I would say that it needs to be done only once. After that, you got system, which is always up-to-date with the newest packages. I recently switched from Ubuntu and see that the difference is very hudge.. However, today I'm gonna try to improve as much as possible ubuntu speed. Let's see what is possible... ;)

  • Funny how Windows Users get all excited when their SSD lets them boot in just a little over 30 Seconds.
