carlosian2 is Jon's youtube channel. This song was inspired by Rachmaninoff's Prelude in C-sharp minor. It is not really a cover...it just shares many of the same musical elements.

A Piano focused remix entitled "Rock meets Rachmaninoff" can be found at this link:

Rock meets Rachmaninoff (Inspired by Prelude in C sharp minor-Rachmaninoff)
Piano: Jon Schmidt
Electric Guitar: Chris Wormer
Drums: Joel Stevenett
Bass: Jake Bowen

Produced by Jon Schmidt
Co-Produced by Chuck E. Myers
Engineered by Jake Bowen
Recorded and Mixed at Big Idea Studios

Mastered by Barry Gibbons at Platinum Studios

When my son was starting his band at 15 years old, he liked to show me guitar and drum discoveries he found on youtube. Having never played in a band myself, I now appreciate the coolness of things like double bass pedaling and guitar sweeps because of him. Rock meets Rachmaninoff combines 2 of my favorite musical influences:

Rachmaninoff and my awesome son, Spencer.

We'd like to also mention that the mp3, Sheet music, 2 orchestral track mp3 options for live performance (minus piano and minus piano for 2 minute pageant performance...), and the midi file for disclavier are all available at http://www.jonschmidt.com. Plus a bunch of other great tunes and sheet music are available at http://www.jonschmidt.com.

  • @Wurbyfu I see.

I'm sorry, it just gets on my nerves when Americans can't seem to write in English. :)

    My apologies once again.

  • He says in his notes above that it's NOT a cover. It was just inspired by it.

  • ROCKmaninoff on!! Great piece of music! I'm sure Sergei would approve! And as stated above, definently not a cover of the song, but a neat inspiration of a great piece of music!

  • @RevRJBrink,

You make a good point--thanks for bringing that up.

  • @ElArdillaFeroz I actually like this one better because you can hear all the other instruments more clearly. Everyone sounds like they're playing together on a shared piece instead of the band just playing backup to the piano.

  • @DramedyFart Serj has the voice of god, that's the difference

  • @DramedyFart They're both amazing, and I applaud your taste in music.

Still, you're comparing apples to oranges here: While they both write music, the latter is a singer first and the former is a pianist first.

  • I don't know who is better, Jon Schmidt or Serj Tankian.

  • Interesting experiment wrt to both vides.

If you're not trying to do something different, now and then, you aren't really trying. If you want to discover true genius, find people who are trying to do something different.

  • Reminds me of dream theater 2:14

  • WOW! Just WOW! Amazing!
