  • I remember seeing one of these in action way back in the early 90s at MIT when I was going to school for electro-mechanical engineering. It blew my mind back then and was one of those things I'd geek out and tell people about for years after. I'm glad to see that such an amazing concept is being made available to a wider scope of people thus enabling them to express and realize their creative visions more readily. Thanks for the great video RBTech!

  • I want to MakerBot an Ellie

  • this guy is an evolved nerd: he didn't once push his glasses up on his nose by the bridge between the lenses.

  • a member of a German lock-picking group, Sportsfreunde Der Sperrtechnik – Deutschland e.V., used his 3D printer to create a key to unlock handcuffs carried by the Dutch police. Startlingly, he was able to measure and reproduce the key accurately by using nothing more than a photograph of the key hanging from the belt of a police officer plus some basic math to gauge its size. Afterward, he not only printed out a copy of the key to test, but also put the model up online for anyone to print.

  • Bre?

  • A guy made a centrifuge because he didn't have 1000 bucks to buy one. He would have had the money if he had not spent it on the makerbot!!

  • @mhaun If you wanna toss your money at them, go right ahead, just don't expect your printer to work for long. Its garbage man, anyway you look at it, from the crappy balsawood like enclosure, to the horribly unreliable electronics, to the "community" filled with amatuer "engineers". The point of my comments is to keep REAL engineers like me buying this piece of garbage that actually need to do REAL work. I need prototypes in a day or two, but for kiddies, hey man, knock yourself out.

  • @mhaun I did follow the directions. If you read my post properly I clearly note that I was ABLE to print something initially, but the printer won't stay working for more than a week. If you ask any makerbot owner, you will hear the same thing. My goal in life is to be a really good plastics engineer specifically for use in injection molding processes, so it is vital for me to be able to print prototypes fast. I have access to a real 3d printer now. What difference does it make where I get $

  • @TheFlanker35 Sorry for late reply, i moved on to the Prusa Rep Rap. I would recommend that route for the cheap.

  • @edlikestoboogie, You have a really great goal in life. Buy a machine, slap it together, don't follow the instructions so it doesn't get assembled correctly, then because you have a little problem with it, throw a big tantrum like the toddler that you are, until the company refunds your money that you probably took from your Grandmother in the first place. You're a fucking moron.

  • @edlikestoboogie,

Does the MakerBot work now? I want to buy a 3d printer, but I don't know whether to buy makerbot or reprap.
