do you have to drill holes in the bottom of the wine barrels to have water escape?

What does heirloom mean in terms of plants?

You mentioned six pepper plants in a barrel. Did that work well? I'm trying to figure out the maximum number of pepper plants per barrel and I was thinking four. Were they too crowded or just about right at six?
Thanks!

Yes, that worked great.

How long do your wine barrel planters last? I can only find whiskey barrel ones here in the northeast and supposedly they don't last as long. Thanks for the Coyote tip, I saw those at the farmer's market last weekend. Don't they require more space?

still growing strong after 5 years. You can treat with wood with a natural oil stain (Penofin Verde) and it will last longer. Also you can used galvenized "buckets" that are as big as wine barrels but will not break down. Coyote Tomatoes? They dont require more space than regular ones. You can only fit 3 tomato plants per wine barrel.
