  • hmm... dont really suggest this method. while it MAY fix the problem for some people, for most its gonna make the problem worsen. The wheel is already well lubed so you dont really need to wd 40 it, Just move it back and forth, if it is a problem with something in the gears that will fix the problem. The part that is responsible for the shutter operations is next to a lot of other parts. the wd 40 will more then likely go into other parts and will cause havoc and u will have more then just a err

  • I fix these cameras. Everytime I get one in for repair and I find WD40 sprayed inside I double the repair cost. THIS IS NOT A FIX. THIS CAUSES MORE PROBLEMS. YOU ARE GOING TO COST YOURSELF MORE MONEY AND IT WILL STILL FAIL AGAIN!

  • I had this happen to my D40x and it turned out that the shutter had died.

  • great tip but if it was me i would have opted for isopropyl alcohol as apposed to wd40

  • Never do this! You have to use special plastics grease. silicone-teflon works. The thickness and quantity DOES matter. And yes, if you use WD-40 make sure you empty the can in it.

  • follow my advice.. make sure if you spray the camera with WD40 you MUST!! I repeat you MUST!! finish the whole can!! BUY A NEW CAMERA..

  • PLEASE don't do this to your camera. I just had this happen and instead of doing something so foolish as this, I took it to an expert to have it repaired. First of all, the part shown in this video is not even the problem. The problem is in the aperture release behind the lens mount. Second, I told the repairman about this video and he about had a coronary. NEVER spray WD 40 into a camera. It will be $200 to get it fixed, but that is still cheaper than buying a whole new camera!

  • Don't spray WD-40 in your camera! Take it to a professional to clean it. It might cost a little more but well worth it, than ruining your nice dslr.

  • Silicone lubricant works best on plastics.

  • Thank you very much, I got this problem during the shoot for an event !!!, in 5 minutes I fixed it ( i always have screudrivers with me !)

PS: I also do not reccomand using the WD 40, better go to service.

  • Im one of the unlucky ones. I did the same thing to my Camera and It worked for three shots then the sign came up again. Any other Ideas? I think my camera probably has kicked the bucket. :( Thanks for the video.

  • Okay so the same problem happened to my D3100, But i cant find any videos on it. ive already unscrewed it so i can get to the metal plate but im having the hardest time actually prying it open?D; can anyone help?:o

  • Awesome, thanks for the advice! I used WD-40 on the red wheel too, rocked it a bit, and tried again. Same problem. I then manually lifted and released the shutter carefully a few times (with a noticeable click the first time), after which everything seems to be working fine again. Woohoo!

  • @smileyyC Is there a technical term for that wheel? I want to buy that part, but i don't know where i would find it or what it is called.

  • @LeHx90 nee det gjorde den inte xD

  • thanks man... you a life saver.. my d3000 was out of warranty...

  • i have D60 also, forgot to mention

  • it works ok. but if i put my camera in burst mode (3 shots / second ) it blocks again after ~10 shots.

  • haha this worked for about 5 shots and then it happened again.... thanks for posting but I dont know what else to do now except maybe doing it again or either taking it to a nikon repairer :( anywho I just bought a Nikon D7000 i just hope it doesnt happen to that one!!!

  • PLEAS HELP MEEE! my guarantee is over so i cant return it! if i fix it like in your video it works in like 2 pics then it does the same again with the text PLEAS HELP MEEEEEE! :(((((
