Schooling figures are used to help a horse to supple, and specific schooling figures can work like "yoga" to help the horse release tension or stiffness in particular joints. The suppling of the movements only works if the horse is ridden in true self carriage. Reverse demi volte, Haunches out, can be confusing. We created the video to help riders remember what they were taught in their lesson. Terms such as direct rein, indirect rein, primary rein and impulsive leg may not make sense to riders who haven't trained with Craig, but they are simple and easy to learn. Classical riding as we teach it does not rely on tension, but on release, to create the movements. Reverse demi volte, haunches out, like all half-pass type movements, is very good for the rider as well as the horse, as it teaches us to let go, and let the horse move.
haunches out.....more commonly called a renvers. The point being to control the shoulders. Start from shoulder fore, it works better. It is very important to keep bend if there is to be pure gaits/bit acceptance. It is to be collecting and supping as well. If the hands are too lowered the horse will shorten the strides and hollow. There should be more demi arrets as well. Seems much more de la Guerinere in effect.
