Guess who's coming to dinner, America? BLACK PRESIDENT! Well, half-black, anyway.

With Barack Obama's historic inauguration, a half-black man will, in many ways, be joining the families of millions of not-black Americans in a way that our nation has never experienced before. So that seemed like the perfect time for me to see, for the very first time, Stanley Kramer's groundbreaking, Oscar-winning 1967 classic, GUESS WHO'S COMING TO DINNER, a film about what happens when a white couple gets the surprising news that Dr. John Wade Prentice, an esteemed black doctor with the World Health Organization (played by Sidney Poitier), will literally be joining their family when he marries their young daughter, who he has only known for ten days.

  • Interesting. I wonder, did you vote for George W Bush? Once or twice? One of the worst leaders in all of the world's history? And if you didn't, were you full of this verbose criticism of bush and the republican party, which has violated american rights and run the country into the fucking ground to an extent previously unimaginable? Somehow i doubt you were. The republicans were dealt an overwhelming, utterly resounding defeat, yet people like you can't understand that you lost. Wow.

  • @RobertsDigital LOL you're an idiot obama is half black and half white

  • What do you mean by "..half black, anyway."

You putting down the half of him that`s white, or the half of him that`s black???

  • what an irony this is

  • This was the best review of this movie I have ever seen, Thank you!!

  • @MixedOreo09 Your percentage of black doesn't matter, if you have black in your blood and there is any sign of it or not, you are black.

  • @vanaphil I am very aware. There is only one race and that is the human race. We are really wasting time. I wish it were different. Someday!

  • @SandraKayeII And a few white people are part black. A very small part. Miscegenation went both ways. Look up your family trees and be surprised.

  • Excellent review of an important -- not to mention highly entertaining -- film that broached a taboo topic with wit, style and a fair hand, and includes some of the finest performances of the respective members of its all-star cast. Houghton, who plays the daughter and bride-to-be, was dismissed by critics of the time as shrill and unsubstantial. The fact is hers is one of the best and most convincing performances in the film, which is a mouthful. A masterpiece of film-making.
