@jrf48 Like it says at the top, it's an exercise in a series of precursors to help you build up to doing a proper hang clean and clean & jerk. More specifically, it focuses on technique and explosivity in the 2nd pull of the aforementioned exercises. Cleans should be learned by first mastering deadlifts, rack shrugs, front squats and push presses as it combines these movements into a super explosive, full body technique.

how come you should do it explosively ? i thought it was suppose to be controlled? whats the different result from doing it either way? can anyone tell me? thanks!

@jrf48 A shrug, and an explosive rack shrug are two different exercises. A standard shrug is controlled while this variation is to be explosive. They both have their place in a program - I hope that helps! - Joe
