The HAL Tejas is a lightweight multirole jet fighter being developed by India. It is a tailless, compound delta wing design powered by a single engine. Originally known as the Light Combat Aircraft (LCA)—a designation which continues in popular usage—the aircraft was officially named "Tejas

The Tejas is presently undergoing flight testing. It will be inducted into the IAF in limited numbers once Initial Operating Clearance (IOC) is achieved. Independent analysts and officials in the IAF expect that deliveries of operational Tejas fighters are likely to begin in 2011, with combat service entry around 2013.

The IAF has created a 14 member "LCA Induction Team", composed of IAF pilots and officers and headed by Air Vice Marshal BC Nanjappa. This team's objectives are to oversee the induction of the LCA, help to solve any challenges that may arise, help the developers customize the Tejas for operational use, as well as help create doctrine, training programs, maintenance programs and help prepare the IAF to speedily ready the Tejas for operational service. This reveals the IAF's desire to be more involved in the LCA light combat aircraft development as well as its urgency to induct new aircraft. The team is stationed in Bangalore.

Senior HAL officials had said in March 2005 that the IAF would place a Rs. 2,000 crore (over US$450 million) order for 20 Tejas aircraft, with a similar purchase of another 20 aircraft to follow. All 40 will be equipped with the F404-GE-IN20 engine. So far, Rs. 4806.312 cr have been spent on development of various versions of Light Combat Aircraft.
The first squadron of the indigenously developed Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) light combat aircraft named Tejas will be deployed in the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu, when the first batch of the 20 fighter aircraft are expected to be inducted by the Indian Air Force (IAF) in 2011.

HAL Tejas high-altitude trials at Leh successfully completed by December 2008.

Light combat aircraft hot weather trial was successful conducted on 30 May 2008. Production version of LCA 'Tejas' took to skies on 16 June 2008.As of December 2008,HAL light combat aircraft Tejas high-altitude trials at Leh were successful. LCA Tejas light combat aircraft completed 1000 Test Flights on January 22, 2009. Tejas have completed 530 hours of in-flight testing.

By February 2009 Aeronautical Development Agency officials said that the Tejas has started flying with weapons and integration of radars would be completed by March 2009. Almost all system development activity would be completed by that time.
In December 2009 Indian government sanctioned Rs 8,000 crores to begin production of the fighter jet for the Indian Air Force and Indian Navy.

A recent Press release by the Government of India on 24 February 2010 stated that the LCA light combat aircraft Tejas will be Inducted into the Indian Air Force by March 2011. In addition to the above contract for 20 LCA, a proposal for procurement of an additional 20 LCA in Final Operational Clearance configuration is being progressed. The specifications of the LCA light combat aircraft are as per the Air Service Requirements framed by the IAF

  • @AeroSharkTech Well the fact is that USA did invade Iraq/Afghanistan purely for oil! You guys killed thousands of innocent civilians and 2 weeks ago you guys killed 76 innocent civlians including 12 children. You claimed it was a taliban hideout when infact it was actually a small village...Isn't it sad to see that 70% of your NATO allies say that the world was safer before the invasion? You guys set up bases in Japan and rape a fucking 13 year old girl! You guys cant even win a war in Iraqi lol

  • @AeroSharkTech boycott? The fact is that all countries are buying Chinese made goods because it's cheaper to produce and export to other countries...Ipod, Iphone, Nokia, Samsung, Acer, LG, Sony Ericsson are all manufactured in China because of the cheap labor cost. China is one of the power hubs in the world...They export goods and they buy their goods them selves thats the problem we have. Stop getting your dick hard bro and sit down

LCA is altrady on orders..!! n it is much better than jf-17 which poor PAF it as a primary state saver..!! hahahha do some research dicky.!!!

  • TRUTH....

LCA is almost a failed project.

India has become such a country, whose every indigenous project ended in failure with the waste of thousands of failed hours. Now india has inducted LCA in IAF in hurry even with its limited capability and defects just to save its FACE.

IAF has decide to induct 20 LCAs by 2017 with limited capability even lower then MiG21. India is repeating the same story of arjun and Murat

  • READ.

According to an IAF source associated,Tejas has inducted but it is still not be the fighter the air force had agreed to accept for limited squadron service. Now in IAF there is a divide on LCA. Some want to turn the LCA into a advanced jet trainer due to its failure as multirole fighter, others are still convinced that it could be a success.

Other the other hand the PAF’s JF-17 is a success in designing and developing a light fighter aircraft in such short time in collaboration with China.

  • it's a joke for the military world

    lca = least capable aircraft

  • As a B52 crew chief taking care of some write-ups,a colonel I knew and who flown this bmr often, shown up with a couple of louies for a little familiarization. He had them do a walk-around. 1 of the louies brashly ordered me to follow him. Noticing 2 puddles below bombay, he touched one then rubbing thumb and fingertips together, smelling to ck for fuel or hydraulics. he barked, "What is this Airman?!" What could I say, but, "That's PISS Sir!". My Col. friend nearly busted a gut. Our Sobel! LOL

  • LCA will be tough to beat, even for a F22.

  • my dads in the us navy and he would kill me if he caught me saying this but finnaly someone actually realises why america did invade iraq its just stupid usa will prolly do the same thing to the rest of the middle east because of how poor we are --.-
