George Harrison, Eric Clapton & Band (1992)
GEORGE HARRISON / TOM PETTY
I can see by your grin
That you're trembling within
It's all over town, cheer down
And the smile on your face
Is sometimes out of place
Don't mind, no frowns, cheer down.
If your hair should fall
If your shares should crash
You'll get by even without getting a rash
There's no tears to be shed
I'm gonna love you instead
I want you around, cheer down.
When your teeth drop out
You'll get by even without taking a bite
If your dog should be dead
I'm gonna love you instead
The world loves a clown, cheer down.

RE:QueenBeatlesWings correction – it’s a reference to being too enthusiastic, not sad. It’s humor, Harrison style.
"Cheer Down" is a country rock song with music written by George Harrison and lyrics written by Harrison and Tom Petty. The title is attributed to Olivia Harrison, who would tell her husband, "Okay, cheer down, big fellow," when he would get too enthusiastic.

Not a big fan of live vids as many artist like to drift off from the original song but this is excellent!

I love this song! I heard it for the first time when it was part of the sound track for a Mel Gibson movie. I think this is another fine piece of music from George! The guitar is great. Nutopianman, thank you for the "back story". Now the words make a little more sense to me.

George wrote this based on an expression his wife had- when he was sad she'd jokingly tell him to cheer down (instead of up)- a private joke almost
