This was my first canoe trip and my first camping experience in the Algonquin Interior. I didn't need to set any records, I just wanted to try it. I watched Maddy the Goose You tube videos for tips and tried to find similar gear. I bought everything I didn't already have, (I love to camp) The stove, water filter, tent, tarp, saw and waist pack with the shockingly reflective front are all new.
I am definitely going to do it again, now that I've gone once. There can't be a single hungry mosquito, horse-fly, deer fly, or 'no see um' out there. I fed them all.
I made a few mistakes here and there. Using the stove near the fire pit seemed safest, but looking at the video now, I see my mistake.
I learned some lessons. I'll learn more next time. I did four portages in total. Two with gear and two without. I went and did some tripping after I set up camp. Learning to manouver the canoe is easier without risking dunking my gear.

The music in the back ground is Andy McKee. All Laid Back and Stuff, and Dependent Arising, followed by Moonglow

  • G'day, love the video, what a fantastic place. Good onya love.;)

  • @phrayzar Thanks you.

  • Great Video, I'm heading out on my first solo trip to algonquin at the end of the month any advice ?

  • @ThatGuyPmk Congratulations on planning your first solo. My advice would include having all the right gear and knowing how to use it before you get out there. I didn't bring any music and I think that would have been a nice addition. Watch the Maddy the Goose videos. He is a guy who knows his stuff. If you have any specific questions, I'd be happy to answer them. Also I do have a gear walkthrough if you think it might help. I'll send it if you ask. Good Luck and have a great time.

  • Way to go Trish.. Great clip, I'm very impressed.. I will admit I do not know of any female who would actually go solo in Algonquin's interior.. I know a few that would claim they would but when it really came down to it they wouldn't do it and for that my hat is off to you.. I go into the interior twice a year with a few guys from work and we fish, get drunk, laugh our asses off. I've always wanted to try a solo trip and now after seeing your video I want to try it even more.. thanks

  • @grizzlyrafting I hope you do try it. The interior is a beautiful place as is all of Northern Ontario. I did enjoy the solo experience and will be doing it again as soon as possible.

  • Good on you nice video keep it up.

  • AWESOME! Smiles R Free.

  • Looks like a beautiful trip. I'm going to have to get a canoe.

  • Did you go to cedar laker?

  • Looks like you had nice weather for the trip. I was backwoods camping in APP about 10 days prior and had mostly rain. I hope to do my first solo in 2011, however, my lady LOVES canoe tripping and doesn't want me to go without her. LOL I'll find a way to get out there solo. We just got a puppy Brittany Spaniel so I may have my own Maddy for MY solo trip. Cheers and keep up the super job of solo trekking!

  • way to go Trish! between you and the goose, you have inspired me to start sharing my solo's...if you ever want to come east i'll share some routes. :)
