There is a Hummingbird Plant near the Nature Center at Brazos Bend State Park. This plant has tubular flowers filled with nectar that Hummingbirds like to eat. I was able to catch some clips of this Hummingbird as it hovered around the flowers. Hummingbirds can fly in *any* direction, while facing any way. They have a long, pointed tongue that can extend far beyond the tip of the beak. The tip is grooved and uses capillary action to pull liquid into the bird's mouth. The tongue can be seen briefly near the end of the 420 fps part of this clip. Although not shown here, Hummingbirds also eat insects. As usual, I have to focus on something in the field before I begin shooting with the high speed. Then I have to hope that my subject will move within my focus depth. This Hummingbird obliged. Video quality at the higher frame rate suffers because I have to resize the video. With licensed music by Bjorn Lynne
