Here is what my pond looks like in the winter months. I also included a few winter pond pictures from previous years. Can't believe that the fish survive our harsh winters, but they always do! We run our waterfall 24/7 and it can get very scary at times, with all of the ice. We do add water if the ice gets too thick because there is a skimmer in the pond. We have to make sure that the water level stays above the skimmer opening or the pump will burn out. Can't wait for spring!!

  • @MsSturch Thank you so much! I'm sure that your goldfish will be fine. They can really take harsh weather and are not as sensitive as koi. Good luck! :)

  • Very beautiful !

  • i live in ottawa... What do you use to keep your pond to temperature so the fish are healthy?

  • @lacey41908; I also do not shut down my pond in the winter. it is located in Calgary Alberta where it does get pretty cold. Right now we are having a cold snap, but three days ago it was completely free of ice, but today it is completely covered. I am too much of a sissy to run out there and take some pics or video of it right now.

I was a little surprised that all the moss was still green the other day.

  • i live in india and was wondering can my koi take the cold there...because its starting to get cold and foggy...but my pond dosent freeze here in india.not that harsh cold...plz some one explain to me wat to do!

  • @helicrashpro Oh my, -25 degrees? I can't even imagine that! I'm not too sure if you would want to run a pond all winter in that kind of weather. I think that it would be too much trouble keeping the ice off of the waterfall.
