Billy Murray sings a sad song to remind us of the terrible tragedy that befell our country in January of 1920. Prohibition sheet music covers are in the slide show.

  • No telling how many songs prohibition inspired! One from about this era is "It's the Smart Little Feller that's Stocked Up His Cellar that's Getting all the Beautiful Girls", but so far I haven't been able to find it.

  • @VictrolaJazz We must appeal to all of the YouTube record posters and try to find a copy of that one! I have been listening to these old records for fifty years and haven't heard that one. It might be on an old piano roll somewhere.

  • I have only heard this tune played by later JAZZ bands. This version, being more original,is much better. This is what happens when the Gutmenschen, the religious Idealogues get control

  • I don't know that it was ever recorded. The way I found out it even existed was that when I lived in Dallas for many years, the public library had a huge collection of 20's sheet music and they had the score for that one. I also don't find it on the Online Discography Project.
