This is said to be the largest known swift roost in the world with approximately 30,000 birds. The swifts gather in a mass and swirl into the huge chimney over about an hour and a half. They get most organized and the largest number swirl in over about the final 20 minutes. When we went it was from 7:20-7:40 PM. There is usually a little extra drama when one or two peregrine falcons swoop in and start snacking.
