@raulposse The blue t-shirt with a red stripe and dark shorts you were wearing closely match the colouring of the cassowary (blue neck skin, red wattle, dark body feathers). It no doubt thought you were a rival or a potential mate - either scenario could have ended messily...

@samisyosam You can't outrun them. They run about 30 mph. Plus, if you retreat, that makes them think they have an edge over you.

You were so lucky ! An unbleivable experince I bet but this Cassowary could have near killed you, amazing animals, I think you did the right thing but still could have grouped up as soon as you saw it.

@NewkyMetal incredible! before the footage began, the cassowary was chasing me at least another minute, and we were in a group just laying on the beach, and for some reason it was interested in me... i seriously coudnt do anything else but walk slowly expecting the worse... unbelievable encounter, i try to think back how things develop, and i cant remember...
