Baby opossums 6 weeks old

This litter of 5 baby opossums was orphaned when their mother was hit by a car. Although they appear very young, they are actually already around 6 weeks old; since opossums are marsupials their babies are born about the size of peanuts, and are very undeveloped at birth. In the video you can hear them making short "psst" sounds, like someone opening a can of soda. The five babies here will be released back in to the wild when they are between 4 and 5 months old, and are currently being cared for by a licensed wildlife rehabilitator.

Has there been any studies/experiments of lactating mothers becoming a wet-nurse for orphans ? Do you use a home brew ? I've heard that Esbilac has mercury in it and KMR is too rich.

What's a mother to do ?

I've had limited success with transferring orphans to the pouches of lactating mothers. If the babies are at least 2 months old they do ok, but younger babies don't do as well. I use Esbilac, and the babies seem to grow up nice and healthy as far as I can tell.

My mom and I just found a mom possum with two babys barely alive the mom was killed by my dog we don't know how to feed them and we REALLY need help! PLEASE SEND A REPLY AS SOON AS YOU CAN!

i was surprised to find this vid... my neighbors dogs killed a mother.... i had to pull the babies from the sac and was very surprised to know that they are marsupials(however its spelled) it was a once in a lifetime event if you ask me!
